![]() SUNO ARTS + HUMANITIESThis project is a replacement facility for the Southern University of New Orleans from hurricane Katrina The program is for a 70,000 sf gateway facility with a 900 seat auditorium, classrooms, labs, museum space and administrative offices. The task was to design a new conference center that expressed conservation and energy efficiency in a style that related to the vernacular of the region. The concept was the dissection and recomposition of a barn. Cold rolled steel cladded walls slice through the concrete floors of the turn of the century warehouse building to designate different functions of the space. Clean, strong lines accent the flow of the internal spaces and designate private from public functions. A cement fiber rain screen reinforces the precise lines of the client's design. |
![]() PRIVATE RESIDENCE | ![]() MCA Music PublishingThe design task was to transform a plain studio building to a place where music is created and celebrated. The design incorporated a second floor cantilevered walkway around the precious studio connecting the front offices to the rear writing rooms. Acoustical design was integral to the angles and construction of the new spaces. Windows and doors were cut into the existing solid facade and a deck added to celebrate a new number one song. ![]() PLATE 21 - COFFEE SHOPDesign for a small local coffee shop located in a turn of the century brick building became a call to create a community gathering spot. Bright colors and curving ceiling designs extend down the wall into frames for local art, make this an active and magnetic addition to the neighborhood. This project received an AIA Design Award. | ![]() WILDWOOD HEALTH - CANOPYThe existing facility was designed without a covered drop-off and the design opportunity was to create shelter and still allow light into the building. A two tiered tensile structure was designed that included glass and steel to create shelter, wayfinding and visual interest to the facility. |
